Woolrich joins The Conservation Alliance

WOOLRICH, Pennsylvania, March 30, 2010– Woolrich, the Original Outdoor Clothing Company®, has joined The Conservation Alliance, making a commitment to the most visible and effective conservation organization in the outdoor industry.

With more than 170 member companies, The Conservation Alliance is dedicated to the protection of wild places for their habitat and recreation values. The Alliance achieves their goals by granting its collective annual membership dues to grassroots environmental organizations.

“Since 1830 Woolrich has been connected to and committed to help preserving America’s pristine wild areas,” said Jim Griggs, president of Woolrich Inc. “Becoming a part of The Conservation Alliance was an easy decision for us. There are few organizations that have done as much and as efficiently for the preservation of wild habitat and recreation areas as The Conservation Alliance.”

Since 1989 The Conservation Alliance has contributed more than $7 million to conservation projects throughout North America. Conservation Alliance grants have helped organizations in their work to protect more than 49 million acres of land, stop or remove 27 dams, and preserve access to thousands of miles of rivers and several climbing areas.

“As one of the great American outdoor brands, Woolrich was at the top of our list for recruiting in 2010,” said John Sterling, executive director of the Conservation Alliance. “We’re absolutely delighted to bring a brand of this stature and reach into The Conservation Alliance family.”

With an outdoor heritage dating back to 1830, Woolrich was founded long before the Wilderness Act (1964), the National Park Service (1916), and The Conservation Alliance itself (1989). Over nearly two centuries in the outdoor business, Woolrich’s commitment to the outdoors has never waivered.

Outside Magazine Editors Honor Woolrich Buffalo Check Shirt with Editors’ Choice Award

“Wool + plaid = perfection”

WOOLRICH, Pa., March 2, 2010 — The Woolrich® Buffalo Check Shirt has been honored with an Editors’ Choice Award by Outside Magazine. The March issue of Outside Magazine features 51 “awesome things” as part of the magazine’s first annual Editors’ Choice Awards.

The editors at Outside Magazine proclaimed the Buffalo Check Shirt as “perfection”.

“We are honored that the editors of Outside Magazine recognize a product that is almost one hundred sixty years old in a market that is dominated by the latest and greatest,” said Jerry Rinder, Vice President Wholesale Apparel & Corporate Marketing. “It’s very satisfying that after all these years that our Buffalo Check Shirt is as relevant today as it was when it was first introduced.”

Woolrich, established in 1830, pioneered the two-tone plaid pattern known as "buffalo check" plaid in the 1850’s with the introduction of the Buffalo Check Shirt. Although the name seems to connote a Western heritage, the derivation of the term is based on the fact that the pattern designer owned a herd of buffalo.

The March issue of Outside Magazine is on newsstands now.
